So, curiosity got the best of me last night and I did watch the new 90210. Ummmm no. It takes a lot to make me blush and I was stunned when I watched what was geared toward teens. I mean, I know that 'stuff' happens in the lives of some teenagers, heck it happened when I was a teenager at my school, but am I the only one who misses the innocence of shows like Saved By The Bell and The Facts of Life? I mean, I think it would be nice to turn on the TV and not have to guard your kid's eyes constantly....not that we had our 15 month old watching, but you know what I mean.
It was interesting to see the original characters. Looks like they are gearing the show to the teenager crowd as well as the thirty-something crowd....is that why it was so smutty? I don't know. I would love to see what the story line brings with the old gang, but don't know if I'll watch it again.
My husband and I were talking about how back in the days of the old 90210 the new one would have been too strong for the 'adult' shows. Makes me so scared to think of what's going to be the norm on TV for 'kids' when our 15 month old is a teenager. Scary. Kids have enough going against them that they have to deal with. I think it's time we gave them a break from all the pressures of life.
So, my conclusion - not for kids ... not at all.
And that's all I have to say about that...I'm off to find some deals. I'll post them in a little while. Feel free to let me know what you thought about the show.

There are some things about TV that I miss (like seeing the Olympics!) but you reminded me why we don't have a TV anymore....its getting worse and worse each year.
I agree with you. We can turn the TV off, but you know the kids watch it when they are at their friend's houses. I thought the new 90210 was horrible. I couldn't even stomach the first 10 minutes of it. I was shocked. I can't believe that the writers can sleep at night. They must not have kids.
Hey Mel,
I watched it last night and it was nothing like the original. Well, the end of the original series did get kind of smutty, but I thought last nights show was NOT for kids at all. I think I would have made myself not watch it if I were a kid instead of waiting for my mom to turn it off. It was definitely made for adults, not kiddos.

I agree with you. Not for kids at all. I don't get it. Seems like all the teen shows are really bad. It would be nice if they had some decent TV shows for teenagers.
I happened to really like the show last night, but I'm 34 and would never let my kids watch it. They are only 5 and 7, but even if they were teenagers I would try to keep them from seeing it.
In my opinion, the buzz about the 90210 is mainly coming from the 30 somethings that were watching it back in high school. They should have just kept the old characters and left the whole teen twist out. It definitely isn't for that crowd.
I was rather offended by the first 'car' scene. I thought it was degrading to think that it needed that type of scenario to keep the audience's interest. It wasn't needed at all.

♥ Definately bad news in my book too!
Just seeing the promo posters for this show in the mall had me disgusted. My 10 year old daughter mentioned to me later that the people in the posters were doing inappropriate things in the pool. YUP!
Hey Found you on the blog trip - I'm with you, I miss the days of Saved By the Bell. I remember my parents thinking that Saved by the Bell was teenage smut.
Missed the show but after reading your post, I'm glad I did. Have a wonderful weekend.
I watched too! I'm so relieved I'm not the only one who thought it was trashy!! I should have turned it off when that teenaged boy was getting you-know-what in his car at school! And these "kids" are supposed to be FIFTEEN years old in this show? I was pretty horrified. I only watched to see Jenny Garth and Shannen Doherty, but I saw way more than I bargained for. Yuck.
